How to use Essential oils

MASSAGE

Massage is a vital part of Aromatherapy providing the most effective way of applying Essential Oils to the body. Essential Oil massage can be deeply relaxing, refreshing, sensuous, muscle toning and stimulating.

Pure Essential Oils can irritate skin and should always be diluted in a carrier oil before being used on the body.

Carrier oils such as apricot kernel oil provide lubrication and allow the Essential Oils to be spread around the body when used in massage.   Add  1-4 drops of Essential Oils to 10mls of carrier oil and mix well before use

Test the diluted Essential Oils for allergic reaction/sensitivity on the inside wrist or elbow prior to massage. Leave for 24 hours.

INHALATION

This is a useful way to relieve congestion of the respiratory system.

Fill a small bowl with steaming water and add 1-3 drops of Essential Oils, cover head and bowl with a towel and breathe in the vapours.

Allergy sufferers should use with caution.

VAPORISATION

Create a mood or atmosphere by adding 3-4 drops of your chosen Essential Oils to a vaporiser filled with warm water. Place a tea-light underneath.

Ensure the burner is placed on a flat surface in a safe place away from draughts and flammable materials.

Do not allow bowl to dry out.

Never allow the Essential Oils anywhere near the naked flame of the candle.

BATH

A warm aromatic bath is relaxing, enjoyable and soothing. Create a pleasant atmosphere by playing some relaxing music, dimming the lighting or using candles.

Run a warm bath and when you are ready to get in add 4-6 drops of your chosen Essential Oils dissolved as follows.

 * First blend the Essential Oils in a small bowl or saucer then add a teaspoon of alcohol, vegetable oil, full fat milk or mild washing up liquid (e.g.Ecover) to the Essential Oils before adding to the bath. Agitate the water to disperse, get in, soak and relax for 20 minutes.
